Gabe November 15, 2015 Reply Hi there! Can you help me understand why anyone would want to pay an ongoing monthly fee to list their business locally. Isn’t this just a local directory submission, and isn’t this just a one time event? What exactly do you get as an advantage to continuing to pay month after month? These companies don’t own those listing directories and if your core business information doesn’t change, then why would you need to keep paying for relisting each month? These aren’t social sites with social postings and a profile.

There are some sites that are a paid listing, I get that. Is that what these are or who they submit to? For the most part I don’t think that is the case. Each of the individual sites that they submit to are free if you went to them individually and submitted your site manually. Sometimes these submission platforms own their own directory listing and they list you on their own site and then charge you to keep the listing, but usually there are providing more than just a listing service they are also doing some SEO on your behalf or other basic marketing.

No one does anything legitimate (requiring real work or thought) to help your business grow for $20 a month. Think about it. I think these subscription sites might be hosing people who don’t realize that local directory listings is a one time event rather than a monthly recurring event. Unless you have a marketing agency and are paying a monthly fee to do bulk submission of sites for many clients, I don’t see the value of paying for a service like these on a monthly basis. But I am not sure that this is the business model you are referring to here in your article. It seems that these businesses cater more to individual businesses than marketing or SEO agencies.
